2020 Penalty for not having health insurance:
In 2020 there will be a California state penalty for not having health insurance and it will be administered by the California Franchise Tax Board. Consumers who do not have health insurance will face a penalty of up to nearly $2,100 per family, which is based on 2.5 percent of your household income or a minimum of $695 per adult, whichever is greater.
Making the best health insurance choices for you
Even though there is no longer a health insurance penalty for most people, health insurance can still be a worthwhile investment. Depending on your personal health, your financial situation and where you live, you may be able to save money and more easily access needed medical care by purchasing either a marketplace or individual insurance policy. We offer a range of plans to help you choose exactly the coverage you need.
The cost of not having health insurance
If you need medical treatment and you don't have health insurance, the medical bills can easily reach into thousands of dollars. If you have a goal of buying a house someday, having a bankruptcy on your record can make that dream disappear. To you young invincibles out there… think twice about going without health insurance.
